The Arts & Nature Program was created from a deep-seated modern need for children to reconnect physically and imaginatively with Nature through immersive experience. DANCE MONKS' Founding directors, Mirah Moriarty and Rodrigo Esteva, have drawn from twenty+ years of experience working with children of all ages in public and private schools as teachers and parents to create this interdisciplinary program. Arts and Nature is a hybrid between child-led explorations and experiential, interdisciplinary arts activities and life skills with artists of renowned caliber. A typical day includes free-outdoor play, story time with myths from around the world
Previous youth projects include: The Great Dreamer (Malcolm X), Rain Dances (Highland Elementary), Wild Child and other tall tree tales (Berkeley Arts Magnet), The Green Project Bike Tour (East Bay), Madrid School (City of Mexico)) and Conversaciones con árboles, Nayarit (Mexico). These were made possible by The Open Circle Foundation and The Zellerbach Family Foundation.
